Happy Halloween 2010

We decided to dress Delilah up in her costume yesterday. We won't be trick-or-treating this year (a bit too young), so we wanted to celebrate with friends. No better time then when we get together for football. WAR EAGLE!  Anyhow, Delilah was ridiculously cute in her costume. Did you have any doubts?!? And like any 16 month old, the antennas didn't last long. I was able to get a few pics during our super fast photo shoot. I am so delighted with the ones I got. Enjoy!

The two pics above are the same. I just couldn't decide which edit I liked better, so I included both.

The above pic is probably my all time favorite!

A ladybug must fly!

I hope everyone has a Happy Halloween! If you are out Trick-or-Treating tonight, stay safe.

TANTRUMS Galore

Well, we have hit that stage that I am not a big fan of (who is?). TANTRUMS. Now that Delilah has found her voice she is letting us know it. She throws one heck of a fit! She definitely has a set of lungs on her. She mainly throws these fits when we try to lay her down, whether we are changing her diaper, giving her the shot, or it is time for nap or bedtime. Just walking towards the changing table brings on the screaming and kicking.

Our Physical Therapist got a taste of these fits yesterday. Delilah just didn't want to do any of the activities so she let the PT know it. The PT suggested it was time to get her into Group Sessions at the Bell Center. The Bell Center is another wonderful Early Intervention (EI) Program. I would love to get her into the Group Sessions. They have circle time and other activities involving a couple of other kids with similar development delays. We just have to see if we qualify for a scholarship. Unlike our current EI (which has state assistance so is Free), this is a private organization, so there is a tuition. Not to mention I will have to make the drive to Homewood (about 30 min one way)  twice a week, which will raise our gas budget. I am optimistic that we will get it all worked out so she can join this program. It would be so good for her.

On to some fun development news. Delilah is showing great balance. She is standing, unassisted, for up to a minute. When she does wobble, she either corrects herself, or lowers herself into sitting. No falling for my girl! She has also mastered climbing up the stairs. (Not to worry, I still follow behind her for safety.) We no longer carry her up the stairs, we let her climb. She hasn't quite figured out how to climb DOWN, so the gates will remain up for safety. She has figured out how to get off the couch safely, by rolling onto her tummy and going feet first. This was a bit of trial and error, as she really liked going face first (thank goodness for PILLOWS!) She is still working on climbing onto the couch.

She still has a little way to go before she is walking, but she is definitely moving in the right direction.

No post would be complete without some pictures.

Hope you have a great Friday and a wonderful Weekend!

Sunday Morning

I made it! I took a picture every morning for a week. May not seem like a big deal, but as a major procrastinator, this is a step in the right direction. As you can probably see from the pics, our mornings are pretty much the same each day. We have set a pretty strict schedule for Delilah, in hopes of making things a wee bit easier in the future, so our days usually tend to stay the same. I liked the idea of taking a picture every morning, but if I ever do this again, it will probably be "Take a Picture a DAY". I want a bit more variety in the pics.

I hope everyone enjoyed a glimpse into our mornings. And just because I love her little feet so much, here is a pic of them. So cute!

Have a great Sunday!

Saturday Morning

Daddy got up with Delilah this morning. As soon as he had changed her diaper, they both climbed back in bed with me and started wrestling. So much for sleeping in! Oh well, it was super cute. I would have taken a picture, but it took me a few minutes to fully open my eyes. I did manage to snag this picture of them playing after breakfast (still within the one hour limit). Delilah loves playing with Daddy.

Friday Morning

This morning we worked on smiling for the camera. She is getting there, but I have to play peek-a-boo behind the camera, which can lead to some wonky shots. This is the best from the few taken. You can sort of see the smile starting. (I really wish there was better lighting in our living room!)

Hope everyone has a happy friday!!!

Wednesday Morning

"Where's my breakfast?"

In the morning, I get her out of bed, change her diaper and clothes and then sit her in the living room while I make her breakfast. Mickey Mouse's Club House can usually keep her entertained, but on occasion she will crawl around the couch and sit like this. Then she will proceed to yell at me! It is the funniest thing.

Tuesday Morning

"Mommy, why are you taking pictures this early?!?!"

Right after I took this, she pulled up on the rails and started talking to the dogs. She may not look like a morning girl in this picture, but she really is.

A Week of Mornings

I came across this blog post last night from Stitches and Scissors which led me to this site, A Year of Mornings. Basically, two friends, who lived far from each other, decided to take a photo every morning, for a year, and post it to their blog. A way for them to stay connected and feel a part of each others life.

I love this idea. It would definitely be too much of a stretch to make a year commitment at this time, but a week is a good place to start. I have been so terrible at taking photos lately, so this is something I really needed.

The rules I will be following: I will take a photo, edit it, and post it to the blog within one hour of waking. Should be interesting to see if I get it done in time. I started today. Here is the photo:

This is what we do every morning after breakfast. We cuddle on the couch. Delilah drinks her milk and watches Disney channel, and I cuddle next to her with my laptop browsing all the blogs I follow. (I, of course, am not in the picture because I am taking it!)

We both slept in until 8:45 so I am still within the one hour window. Wish me luck on following through with this task.

Long Morning

This morning was a little rough for Delilah. She had a, highly procrastinated, doctor appointment. When we went in for her 12 month appointment, she was sick so she couldn't get her shots. Shots are never fun, so I put them off a bit. (I know...sue me!) Also in the hustle and bustle of John returning from Iraq, Dr. Miller sent us a request to get some lab work done. This email got lost in my ever growing inbox and was just found last week. (Thank goodness Dr. Miller is so understanding!) So we no longer could put off the dreaded doctor appointment, and I made an early 8:30am appointment for this morning.

Let me start by saying the lab work requested required fasting, so Delilah had not had her breakfast or milk at the time we arrived for our appointment. I made it a point to arrive early, 20 mins, so we could possibly get the lab work taken care of fast, and D could have her milk. SO didn't happen. We were taken into the back for measurements (21lbs, 33inches long) then escorted to a room. Where we waited to see the doctor. Waiting BLOWS! I think we waited well over 30 minutes before there was a knock at the door. The doctor came in and did the normal exam and asked the usual questions. Then she said the lab tech and nurse would be in, quickly, for shots and blood work. Not so quick. It was another 20 minutes before we heard the second knock. Hoping beyond hope it was the lab tech, I was quite disappointed to see the nurse for the shots. I was really hoping for blood work first. At least I would be able to give her milk to calm her down after. I couldn't do that with the shots going first. Four painful shots later, I had a very unhappy child on my hands. She was inconcolable, but who can blame her with an empty stomach and painful shots.

I again hoped for the lab tech to arrive shortly after. I really set myself up for disappointment. It was another 15 minutes before the lab techs arrived. They seemed shocked to see a child already screaming and crying. I was a bit worried they wouldn't be able to proceed. They usually can't find a good vein and send us to Children's to get the labs done. Luckily it worked out and Delilah was finally done with everything. She could finally have her breakfast!

Now, I know waiting in doctor's offices is inevitable. However, when the infringes on the comfort of a child, my child, I start to take issue. I did everything I could to try to get the lab work done first and fast. I told the nurse while making the appointment. I told the receptionist while checking in. I told the nurse taking measurements. I even expressed my feeling to the doctor. All, to no avail. I was one frustrated mommy today. Even John noted my grumpiness when we picked him up from the airport.

I don't usually have issues with our Pediatrician. I really like both of the doctors and don't want to find a new practice, but I can't have Delilah going through all this. Spending time in doctors offices is going to be a solid fixture in her life and there is no reason for them to be so traumatic. Hopefully I can speak to the doctor about this and find a solution.

On a brighter note, (sorry for all the venting), Delilah is learning to communicate more and more with sign language. She is beginning to sign things without being prompted. For instance, she signs "more" when she wants me to continue singing a song. So stinkin' cute. She is also starting to let go of furniture while standing. You should see the look on her face when she does, so proud. (I will try to catch it on camera.)

A fun thing Daddy has taught her is 'touchdown'. Anytime we say it she raises her arms up in the air, and we will clap and yell touchdown again. She will also do this unprovoked and grunt at us to yell "touchdown". I have tried to catch this on camera, but she is a quick one.

I will try to get some photos to post soon, to make up for this super long post!

Picture Perfect

Saturday morning John, myself, Delilah, Brad, and Jenn headed to Homestead Hollow, which you may remember from this post in May. It was beautiful weather. Jenn and I both love the booths, while the boys tend to focus more on people watching (a sport in Alabama). However, our main purpose was to get some good pictures in the outdoors. Something, I think, we accomplished.

Now, if only we could get Delilah to smile for the camera.
